Ongoing community service projects and events

Saint Nicholas project for Primary students

It is with great joy that I announce the St. Nicholas project has been confirmed. It is directed by the Red Cross and is assisted by Reech eng Hand. I would like to thank both Mrs. Montse Alvarez Losada of Lux I and Mrs. Elisabetta Di Salvatore of Lux 2 for having accepted to be the project coordinators in each school.

In all, we have accepted to collect 24 gifts (12 in Lux I and 12 in Lux 2) that will be distributed on Friday, 3 December (three days before, St. Nicholas Day) to children between the ages of 0 and 12 who live in a foyer here in Luxembourg. All Primary RCA teachers and students are encouraged to support this project.

Project with the Centre SMJ for Secondary students

The collection of items on the Centre St Martin Jeunes/Fondation de la Maison Porte Ouverte wish list (in annex. Please note: all items may be gently used, unless indicated otherwise). This center houses and assists unaccompanied minors and young adults between the ages of 12 and 27 who receive refugee status here in Luxembourg.

In the future, once the sanitary measures permit, it is hoped a bridge will be created between the young people in this center and the Secondary students in Lux I and Lux 2 by organizing sports matches, hikes, etc., as well as offer community service opportunities.

Other news

Chaplaincy Team

A chaplaincy team will soon be created, consisting of the RCA coordinators from Lux I and Lux 2, two additional RCA teachers, two RCA students and two parents whose child(ren) is (are) enrolled in RCA classes and myself. Also, once an official announcement has been made as to which priest has been nominated to assist the chaplaincy, he, too, will become a member the team.

WYD 2023

Plans are already underway for the WYD Lisbon 2023.

The official dates of the WYD Lisbon 2023 have been announced by the Archdiocese of Lisbon: August 1st to 6th. Of course, traditionally, the Archdiocese of Luxembourg attaches an additional week to this pilgrimage.

A preparation committee is in place and I have just accepted to become a member. So, if you have any ideas or questions, I will be able to forward them to the committee.

I hope to see you in the coming weeks!

Kind regards,

Cheryl Kouba
