Mission of the chaplaincy animator
Outside of the religion course and in a pastoral setting, as well as in contact with the different religious communities, the chaplaincy animator offers young people a familiarization with faith and religious culture in an extra-curricular setting through workshops which pupils can sign-up for freely. This extra-curricular approach is a service offered and is aimed at all young people in search of themselves, the meaning of their lives and religious culture.
Good collaboration with religion teachers, as well as other stakeholders, in the schools is essential for the successful implementation of such an offer.
Offers can be organized by chaplaincy animators in collaboration with religion teachers; they can include presentations (topics with a religious, humanitarian and social dimension), religious activities throughout the year and excursions, such as field trips. This could enable pupils to develop an understanding of the many expressions of religion. The extra-curricular activities offered by the chaplaincy also include the organization of international trips and excursions with a religious vocation.
Community service is an element to be promoted in accompanying young people at the level of the school chaplaincy. This community service can take different forms in terms of religious and/or social commitment in various fields (NGOs, humanitarian and social aid institutions, parishes etc.) in Luxembourg society.
The preparation of activities around the major Christian religious festivals can also be part of this task and if necessary, his or her work may also include participation in the initiation to the sacraments by offering preparation workshops as an extra-curricular activity.
